First Day of Summer Vacation: Fail

Do you want some fun tips for a fantastic summer with the kids, full of crafts and educational ideas, and lots and lots of pictures? Forget it. I'm still brain dead from the end of the school year.

I was so happy for the last day of school that I didn't even think about--let alone plan for--the next three months where the kids will be solely my responsibility. And day one didn't go so well, either.

Of course it's a thousand degrees and our pool isn't open yet, so I decided to take the girls on an impromptu trip to the local pool.

Fail.

Pool #1 with the fun slides was hosting a private school party. So we drive hopefully to Pool #2.

Fail again. Pool #2 was not opened yet.

So I took two hot, wailing and disappointed children for ice cream downtown. Score one for Mama. Then we decided to walk to the pet store where my kids whined and nagged the employees to let them pet every furry creature in the store. Score one for the kids. I had to promise a visit to the toy store just to get them out of the pet store. Guess what?

Fail. Toy store was closed.

So we went home and filled up the kiddie pool. It was like watching Laverne and Shirley make the most of their "vacation pool." I have feeling this is going to be one very long summer.
