Bloomin' Chores

I have been trying to make a chore chart for the girls for weeks. I bought these crafty wood circles at Michaels, wrote out the chores and glued magnet squares on the back. I thought I could have them pull a chore off the fridge and stick it in a box with their name, and each day or week, they'd earn a reward.

I used sticker letters (again, from Michaels) to write their names on the little plastic boxes (yes, Michaels too). I also bought two sets of magnet shapes for repetitive things, like homework, or for special things, like being a good helper.

But, they weren't interested.

Sigh. Everything has to be fun or Maisey pronounces that she won't do it. And of course Evie follows Maisey. So I looked on Pinterest, and found so many cute and many complicated ways to track chores. Most of them seemed too elaborate for me. I wanted it to be simple and fun. And after much searching, I was getting frustrated. Blooming chores! Of course, that was an epithet, but it suddenly made sense.

They love flowers, but I didn't want to give up on my circles and shapes, so I got 2 magnetic sheets and used the chore circles to make a flower. Under the stem of the flower is their little box, with chores inside. If they do a chore, they pick it out and place it on the flower template to make the flower bloom. There are 7 chores, so it could be done daily or weekly, and the extra butterflies and ladybugs go along with the theme.

The kids love the idea, and now they want to make their flowers bloom each week. Yay! I am also more clear about the reward each week. For now it is doing something special each weekend while the weather holds out.
