We squeezed in three Smithsonian Museums on our day trip to Washington DC. First, we passed through the Air and Space Museum.
Next Stop, The Natural History Museum
We love fossils, and saw everything from Big Al to the earliest horse, who was about the size of a rodent. I'm glad they evolved into larger creatures. There was even a diorama featuring the giant sloth, a species of which I happen to be a member, but only in winter.
In one of the wings, The National Geographic exhibited amateur photos from it's previous contests. These are some of the ones we liked best.
We even stopped in to see the Hope Diamond, and some other exhibits, but the crowds were too much for Evie and me. Maisey did manage to find her ancestors though, while Evie took a nap on me in the mezzanine hallway. The highlight there for me was the natural soapstone formation that resembled an orgy of Stay-Puft Marshmallows.
Last Stop, Museum of Art
Clint's and my favorite place to dawdle. The kids? Not so much. Granted, they love art, but it was the end of a long day. We made it through the impressionist wing, and everyone was happy. We got a couple of shots of the fountain and architecture upstairs. You can see the enthusiasm on the kids' faces. But of course, now we have to come back to see the rest of the museum.
I managed to get a couple of decent shots of the city on our way out of town.
Onward to the hotel, where we shall eat, swim and sleep, and wake up and be on our way to Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson.
